Patient screening & follow-up with the irx3™ Wavefront Aberrometer

Imagine Eyes’ irx3™ Wavefront Aberrometer is the ideal solution for practitioners that are faced with the growing need to simultaneously increase clinic efficiency and patient satisfaction.  For clinicians that conduct in-clinic research programs parallel to their primary activities, this need is even more pronounced.

Initial and pre-surgical patient screening

By providing exceptionally accurate and repeatable data, the irx3 can be a valuable tool to the clinician when determining which surgical or optical corrections are best suited to a patient’s needs.  As a natural complement, this helps to streamline the referral process and maintain patient confidence.

Pre-surgical screening

Most aberrometers that are currently linked to excimer laser systems lack the resolution and dynamic range that can enable doctors to measure and characterize naturally occurring or surgically induced higher-order aberrations.  Using the irx3 to objectively assess changes in spherical aberrations during accommodation may also help surgeons chose between custom wavefront ablation and standard PRK LASIK.

Post-operative follow-up

Even though LASIK surgery offers the majority of patients satisfactory overall results, it occasionally induces higher-order aberrations at the outer edge of the ablation zone.  This is usually most noticeable to patients when the pupil is dilated in low light situations like nighttime driving.

Several other correction modalities such as intraocular implants or progressive addition lenses can often add significant amounts of higher-order aberrations to the eye’s optical system.  It is worth noting that a number of recent ophthalmic designs for correcting presbyopic vision intentionally increase the eye’s aberrations in order to artificially restore its ability to see at various distances.

By moving postoperative consultations from the surgical block to the consultation room, the irx3 can not only help to alleviate backlog but may also assist in promoting patient comfort by performing these procedures in a more comfortable environment.

Long-term treatment

Reputation plays a key role in the success of refractive surgery clinic.  One of the deciding factors in building that standing is word-of-mouth generated by satisfied patients.  Oftentimes, satisfying a patient is not uniquely dependant on post-surgical visual outcome, but equally on the overall experience during the different stages of clinical work.

It’s no secret that having the most up-to-date equipment and practices goes a long way in building confidence with the patient.  For surgical and non-surgical patients, examinations with the irx3 are fast and comfortable for the patient.  This may help practitioners to see more patients during the workday all the while providing exemplary care.
