The adaptive-optics system in the rtx1, combined with its unique optical design (patent pending), enables researchers to obtain clear, sharp images of retinal microstructures including cones, capillaries, nerve fiber bundles and even the optic nerve head. Principal characteristics** include: - compact size – at just 35 x 17.5 x 50 cm (instrument head without PC) is similar in size and appearance to the other ophthalmic instruments;
- wide corrective ability – the adaptive-optics system at the heart of the rtx1 uses Imagine Eyes’ patented mirao 52-e deformable mirror as it’s active correction component which enables the device to function on a wide variety of eyes;
- large imaging area – images can be acquired on an area >4 x 4° (1,200 x 1,200 µm) on the retina;
high-resolution and definition – intrinsic lateral resolution of >3 µm where 1px on the CCD is equal to 1,1 µm provides finely detailed images; - NIR illumination sources decrease involuntary movements and increase patent comfort – the rtx1’s two sources (one SLED functioning at 750 nm for focusing and correction, the other a specially designed flood illumination source functioning at 850 nm for imaging that provides consistent illumination across the entire field of view) are extremely comfortable for subjects when compared to white light, reducing involuntary the blinking and shifting that severely degrade image quality;
- internal fixation target –built in OLED microdisplay that acts as a fixation target that enables users to shift the gaze angle as much as ±10° horizontally and ±8° vertically;
- standard ophthalmic chin rest – stabilizes the patient’s head without the need for encumbering head fixation accessories.
